1/6 Jackson Hole Fishing Report: New Year New Fishing Adventures

A Happy New Year to all fellow anglers! May 2026 bring you tight lines and new angling adventures. It's not too early to start the upcoming fishing season. After an unusually warm December, we have finally slipped into true winter conditions here in January. The trout are now in winter survival mode, hanging out in the slower, deeper pools and runs. Nymphs and streamers (Low and Slow) are the fly of choice for now. Concentrate your fishing to the warmer parts of the day, typically 12 PM - 4PM. Warm, cloudy days are ideal for midge activity to occur, and if you're lucky fish could be looking up targeting adults. Throwing nymphs and streamers at the Jackson Lake dam have yielded some nice fish recently.

Stop by our new location at 160 W Broadway for the latest fishing intel, leader, tippet and fly recommendations. Also, check out our brand new line of Skwala outerwear for staying warm in these cold conditions.

We will be posting these reports more frequently in 2026, so stay tuned for more as we head into the New Year.

Suggested Fly Patterns: zebra midges, pheasant tail nymphs, coppertop duracells, Pat's Rubber Legs, KT Midge Baetis Emerger, Squishy Turds, soft hackles, and adult midge patterns such as the Griffith's Gnat and Smoke Jumper. For Streamers try Lil Kims, JJ's Specials, and black pine squirrel leeches.
