Goodbye June... Hello July Fishing!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! I can't believe June is already gone.
June produced some very good fishing in the Yellowstone area and early July fishing has continued in that manner. The Jackson Hole Valley has been particularly good with full-blown summer fishing. Typically, when run-off eases and the Snake River in Jackson Hole starts to fish, we see a lot of smaller fish, but it's already producing bigger fish. And that's definitely a little unusual.

We're also using flies and techniques that we would normally use later in the season. Big foam, in colors of purple, red, and pink/peach, that is usually reserved for late July and early August are already working for us. You could look at Peach & Purple Chubbies and Willy's Red Ants for dryflies. You could try an Oil Slick Perdigon, Split Case PMD, or maybe a French Jig as dropper nymphs off the big foam dries. Snake River Cutthroats are very predaceous, on the order of a Brown Trout, so streamer fishing is always a worthwhile technique to try. Scott Sanchez's Double Bunny Jig streamer was born and raised in Jackson Hole, so that's a no-brainer to fish! Other streamers to have with you would be a copper & gold Kreelex and RIOs Extrovert.
If you can get out and fish, you should do so while the Valley is fishing well. With area waters dropping quickly, it is hard to say how long this will continue. On the positive side, we recently have been receiving some much needed rain. This is a godsend to Jackson Hole's rivers and streams. Another positive note, as I've already mentioned, is most all of Yellowstone's waters are fishing well. Keep in mind that Hoot Owl restrictions are still in place in Yellowstone National Park for the Firehole, Gibbon, and Madison Rivers.
As always, for up-to-the-minute fishing information, don't hesitate to give us a call at (307) 733-3270.
Until next time, good fishing.
